A 3D design venture producing custom props, helmets, and functional replacement parts, where I led a small team across design, scanning, and fabrication.

The most interesting side of the work is "obsolescence". A large number of commissions are parts nobody makes anymore: discontinued exterior lighting components, plumbing fittings with no current equivalent, pieces where the original manufacturer is gone and the only remaining copy is the broken one in the customer's hand. Recreating those means working backwards from a physical object rather than forwards from a drawing. LIDAR scanning captures the geometry, SolidWorks and Blender turn a point cloud into a manufacturable model, and the reproduction has to fit existing hardware that was never documented. That work is where I first dealt with obsolescence tracking and retrofit as real engineering problems rather than abstractions.

Material selection carries as much of the outcome as geometry does. Props and display pieces can print in standard filament, but parts that have to survive load or weather need more, so I have worked carbon fiber for tiny creations, fiberglass, and other composites into printed structures to raise stiffness and durability past what the printed part alone provides. Choosing where a part needs that reinforcement, and where it is wasted cost and weight, is most of the judgment.
